Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 Buyers Guide
Air Brigade looks to Elferspot.com for their thoughts on buying a Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 that were only offered between 1975 and 1977.
The Porsche Carrera 911 with the 3.0 engine was very special and unique as it combined elements such as the lightweight flywheel and crankshaft from the 1973 Porsche 2.7RS with the case of the Porsche 930 turbo engine without the turbos. Performance of the Porsche Carrrera 3.0 had performance on the road very similar to the original Porsche 911 2.7 RS.
These Porsche 3.0’s have become very collectible as evidenced by a recent sale of a 1977 Porsche 911 3.0 that sold at the RM Sotheby’s Sarraga auction for US$78,717.
During the era of 1975-1977 the Carrera 3.0 was sold as an offering between the standard 911 and the 930 Turbo. There were only 3,687 Carrera 3.0’s built compared to 58,000 911SCs.
The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 offers investment potential but has lagged behind 1973 RS and the original 930 Turbo. Elferspot identifies the 1977 model as the better option due to the improvements in braking and shifting performance and several interior details from an appearance and safety standpoint.

About Elferspot
As a long-standing enthusiastic Porsche 911 driver, I have asked myself for a long time whether there is this “spot” on the Internet, where the supply and demand combined with information on the subject of Porsche sports cars meet at the highest quality level. Since I found nothing interesting and high-quality in the net, I started to work on the own idea and ultimately also with the concrete implementation. On 9th November 2017 at 9:11 am elferspot.co went live. With elferspot.com, we want to bring enthusiasts and service providers together with the same passion for Porsche sports cars. We want to be not only a market place for Porsche sports cars, but also a spot for background information and exciting stories, according to the motto: By enthusiasts for enthusiasts.
